ADA Paving publishes practical California accessibility guides covering pavement, parking, sidewalks, ramps,
accessible routes and exterior property compliance.

We Research

We review accessibility standards, official guidance and California requirements.

We Explain

We turn technical information into clear, practical educational content.

We Educate

We help property professionals better understand accessibility responsibilities.

Our Purpose

Practical Accessibility Education for California Properties

Accessibility requirements can be technical, fragmented and difficult to interpret. Our role is to organize that information into practical guides that people can understand and use.
We focus on exterior accessibility conditions that commonly affect commercial properties, including accessible parking, paths of travel, curb ramps, surface slopes, striping, signage, asphalt and concrete improvements.
We provide educational information. We do not replace a CASp, architect, attorney, engineer or local building authority.

Built For Title 24 Compliance

Designed as a dedicated educational portal, ADA Paving breaks down California Title 24 Chapter 11B codes, slope tolerances, and parking standards into clear, actionable guides.

COMMON QUESTIONS

ADA Paving Frequently Asked Questions

Plain-English answers to the questions we hear most from California business owners and contractors.

What are the key ADA requirements for parking lot striping in California?

In California, parking lot striping must strictly follow Title 24 Chapter 11B requirements. Standard accessible stalls must be at least 108 inches wide with a 96-inch access aisle (or 108 inches wide for van spaces). All access aisles must be painted with blue hatch lines, display “NO PARKING” stencils, and connect directly to an accessible route.

Does sealcoating or restriping a parking lot trigger full ADA compliance?

Yes. Under California law, re-striping, re-surfacing, or applying a slurry seal to a commercial parking lot triggers a requirement to bring the accessible stalls and access aisles into compliance with current Title 24 standards, including stall layout, line striping, and sign mounting heights.

What is the maximum surface slope permitted for accessible stalls in California?

California Title 24 limits surface slope in accessible parking stalls and access aisles to a maximum of 2.08% (1:48 gradient) in any direction. Excessive slopes are one of the most common citations issued during CASp audits.

What is the difference between Federal ADAAG and California Title 24?

California Title 24 Chapter 11B is stricter than federal ADAAG. California requires a 96-inch access aisle (versus 60 inches federally for standard spaces), specific blue paint color specifications, International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA) ground paint, and mandatory fine penalty language on post-mounted signage.

How many van-accessible parking spaces are required for my lot?

In California, at least 1 in every 6 accessible parking spaces (or fraction thereof) must be van-accessible. If a parking facility has only one accessible space, that single space must be van-accessible.
